Today the British Dyslexia Association forward an announcement from CEO, Dr Kate Saunders about her decision to retire in February 2018.

Obviously the dyslexia community worldwide will be sad to see Kate leave her role, but equally I know that we will wish her all the best with the next chapter of her life.

The announcement can be seen below (see website link at end of this article).

British Dyslexia Association Statement
CEO Retirement Announcement

31st August, 2017

The British Dyslexia Association (B.D.A.) is a charity which
serves the Dyslexic community and those who support them.
The BDA aims to bring about a
Dyslexia Friendly Society.
Within
this overall aim, the current key goals as agreed by the Board of Trustees are as follows:
1.     Early identification of
dyslexic difficulties for all in society.
2.     Availability of effective and
appropriate teaching provision for all dyslexic children and adults.
3.     Availability of appropriate
assessments for all dyslexic children and adults.
4.     Reasonable adjustments for
dyslexic individuals within all sectors of society (including education,
employment, training and the criminal justice services).
5.     Information should be
available for dyslexic individuals across the age ranges and sectors, and for
those who support them, about effective strategies to help overcome dyslexia
related difficulties, and how to maximise the strengths of those with dyslexia.
6.     To raise dyslexia awareness.

The B.D.A. Is proud of the extensive work it
carries out across a range of activities towards these aims. Several of these
achievements are highlighted in the B.D.A.’s recent Impact Document (click here

As an organisation the B.D.A. is currently in a strong
financial position, providing a very sound basis for future planning.

I have had the privilege to serve as B.D.A. CEO
for 6½ years, having previously worked as Education and Policy Director, then
Chief Education Officer and Interim CEO at the B.D.A. during the previous 2
years. I will be retiring at the end of February, 2018. The B.D.A. will,
therefore, be advertising the CEO post in the near future, in order to enable
recruitment and a planned hand-over period.
The B.D.A. will be seeking a new CEO driven by the values and aims of
the B.D.A. to work to make a positive difference in this field.

I would like to pay tribute to the Trustees,
staff, members, supporters and volunteers at the B.D.A. for all their support,
hard work and dedication to this common goal. This drive to do the best they
can for Dyslexic individuals across the age ranges will fuel continued future
success.
