Free Video Training Resources For Dyslexic Learners

As a parent of a child in Key Stage Two, Three or Four , if you are lucky enough to get a diagnosis of dyslexia for your child, it is probably unlikely that you will be signposted comprehensively to areas of technology that could really help your child to thrive at school.

Whilst my daughter was supported at school, the best that she got was a laptop for written work and a coloured overlay (which didn't work for her).  There is, however so much more technology available that can really make a difference in terms of comprehension, retention and expression of information when completing school work.

Weirdly, should your child be fortunate enough to get the grades and find themselves on a degree course at university, all of a sudden there seems to be a tonne of resources available with an allocation of spend for the student of up to £5000 to support their learning with technology on the Disabled Students Allowance.

There are many companies out there that sell assistive technology to support learners with dyslexia, but I wanted to showcase one in particular that has taken the bold step of providing training online for all their assistive products and for FREE.  What this means is that there is a library of tutorial videos that can be used to either top up training or simply be used to see what a particular product does and how it can be useful.

The company is call Wyvern Training and I will give you the link to their website later in this blog.

Below is an example video of how to read out text within Microsoft Word using SprintPlus.

There are many more video tutorials available for all types of software products.  It really is worth taking a look around for ideas and inspiration.

The Wyvern Training Portal is free for anyone to use and can be found at  http://wyvernportal.co.uk/ .
