What to expect at the BDA Parent Pop-Up Roadshow?

John Hicks, parenting and neurodiversity coach, will give an overview of the emotional challenges of a child having dyslexia within a family and what parents can do to help to support them.

Representatives of specialist dyslexia independent school, St David’s College will also be available to share resources and best practice for supporting dyslexic children through education.

As a regular speaker at these events, I get to speak with many parents of dyslexic children and the topics that we discuss are often very similar. In particular the topics I hear about are concerned with what to do next after a diagnosis of dyslexia in terms of gaining support from schools, what is the legal position of a child requiring support from the Local Authority and how to uphold a child’s sense of positive self-esteem.

If you are a parent of a child who has recently been diagnosed and can get to this meeting you will gain some useful insights on what to do next for your child in helping them to be the best that they can be within the education system.
