What are my legal rights for dyslexia support in school?

This academic year has just been terrible for children especially for children with dyslexia. As we move into the summer holidays, what support for your child’s dyslexia can you expect to ask for from your school or Local Authority in September? Nicole Lee, from SEN Legal Ltd wants to answer your questions for free in our latest webinar.

So let me tell you why I am setting up this latest free webinar…

I have many conversations with parents of dyslexic kids. I am often told about how difficult it is to get support here in the UK Education System. I hear lots of stories about misleading information being given to parents because of a number of reasons.

Some of these include:

  • Some school professionals simply do not have enough training to know what to do to support the learning needs of a dyslexic child in a classroom,

  • Lack of awareness of support available for a child with dyslexia,

  • The support of a dyslexic child is a lesser priority than that of managing a class,

  • Some Local Authorities really do not want children with dyslexia to access funding for support from them as their needs are not deemed to be significant enough versus more obvious ‘disabilities’ that other children may be experiencing.

  • Parents are not fully aware of their legal right for support for their child or that they can apply for Education Health and Care Plans (EHCP).

We almost have a perfect storm with misleading information floating about regarding dyslexia support in school and parents not confidently knowing what their rights are to request support resulting in children growing up not believing in themselves and unlocking their potential.

For me, I want dyslexic children and young people to believe in how their unique way of thinking could change the world, I want them to approach life with self-belief so that their strengths can shine and their weaknesses supported effectively.

If you want to know the legal facts about supporting a child with dyslexia, then join me on my latest webinar with Nicole Lee, specialist education solicitor and get the information you need to make sure that the right support is in place for your child.

I am teaming up with Nicole Lee from SEN Legal Ltd, to provide you with an opportunity to ask the questions that are important to you about your legal right to secure support for your child. I like SEN Legal as a company because whilst they do charge for their services, they also give out a lot of information and advice for free across the UK.

What I want you to do is to do the following:

  1. Write your burning questions about dyslexia support in schools in the comments below.

  2. Register for the webinar using the form below. It is a free webinar that I will be recording it so even if you can’t make it you will be able to listen to it again.

  3. SHARE THIS POST! Lets get this opportunity to as many parents as possible so that more parents can get the support that their children are legally entitled to.

Once I have collated the questions, I will pick the most common ones ready for submission to Nicole and she will answer them on the evening of 14th July at 8pm UK.

We have limited spaces on this webinar so book as fast as you can.

UPDATE - The places on the webinar have been taken up now, but I am going to live stream on YouTube too so that you can at least view the webinar.
