The British Dyslexia Association collaborates with Mumsnet To Produce Dyslexia Awareness Video.

Dyslexia Awareness Week is continuing here in the UK and beyond and this has been marked by a collaboration between the British Dyslexia Association and Mumsnet.

Mumsnet is a popular organisation that pools information that is extremely useful to parents for a whole range of topics that parents will care about. To mark Dyslexia Awareness Week, Mumsnet joined forces with the British Dyslexia Association to release a video that gives essential advice to parents about dyslexia.

With dyslexia being thought to affect 10 to 15% of the UK population, parents all over the UK will be looking to find ways that help their dyslexic children to thrive in education.

Whilst the BDA and other dyslexia specific charities work tirelessly to raise awareness all through the year, October’s Dyslexia Awareness Week is a good opportunity to raise the profile further with the hope to reach more parents and benefit more children who live with dyslexia.

Chief Exec of the BDA, Helen Bowden, took part in imparting information that parents can use to inform them of the next steps in getting support. I too was invited to share some of my experiences regarding getting support for my own daughter who was diagnosed with dyslexia, aged 12.

As someone who has taken part in the BDA’s popular Parent Roadshow across England and Wales, I am struck by how many parents are out there who need good quality information on how to get support for their children. The BDA is working hard to encourage parents to create a unified voice that informs Local Authorities of their legal rights for support and to lobby MP’s for meaningful change to our education system.

For now though, parents who suspect that their children have dyslexia need to know where to start to get that initial support. This video will help.
