On Wednesday 18th March, the UK Government announced that all schools will be closing on Friday 20th March in a bid to contain the spread of the Covid-19 Corona Virus pandemic for the foreseeable future.
As a parent of two daughters I know how hard it was when my children needed time off school. It required a juggling act between between home, family and work commitments. It was always stressful but I knew that it was always going to be short term.
With the government announcement, there is no ‘short term’ hope, no light at the end of the tunnel pending daily updates amidst a tonne of bad news coming from all over the place.
As a parent of a dyslexic child this could be a time of feeling overwhelmed, anxious or stressed as you seek to find a way to support your child or children, maintain whatever is happening career wise and just generally cope.
At this time your emotional well-being is critical to getting through this period.
During this period I am going to continue to write articles that I hope will help you as your support your child outside of school, but I want to go one better and offer you direct support via phone or Skype to help you understand what all this means for you and your family and explore what you can do in the midst of it so that you get to the other side in reasonable shape.
I am a trained therapeutic counsellor as well as a parenting coach and I am offering free telephone or and skype conversations giving parents a chance to breath, explore and plan for what they and their families need.
