On the 7th May 2020, I delivered the webinar, “Why is it important for a child with dyslexia to have good self-esteem?” At the end of the webinar, participants asked some questions about self-esteem which I said that I would answer in this article.

Initial comments.

If you are a parent of a dyslexic child, you probably won’t be surprised to hear that having poor self-esteem and being dyslexic are often simultaneously experienced.

With the Dyslexia Show 2020 being postponed to September due to Corona Virus restrictions, organiser, Arran Smith put together a three day online event called Dyslexia Show Virtual with a range of speakers who were going to speak in March and who are also booked for September.

I was invited to take part and provide a ‘prequel’ to my seminar that is taking place in September about boosting self-esteem for a dyslexic child.

To be able to boost dyslexic self-esteem, parents and teachers need to understand the impact of dyslexia on a child’s perception of their own self-worth.

With more than 300 places booked on the webinar, I was keen to help all participants to explore and understand more deeply why good self-esteem is important for a child with dyslexia.

At the end of the webinar, there were a number of unanswered questions which I said that I would take and then answer in this post and so as such recorded the video below with my answers.

Hope it helps.
