Dysgraphia, a term not commonly heard, plays a significant role in the world of dyslexia and neurodiversity. While I've spent many years working in the field of dyslexia, the word "dysgraphia" often arises when discussing co-occurring conditions and the broader context of neurodiversity. In my journey, I've come to understand that dyspraxia primarily pertains to fine motor coordination and is more frequently used in the US than in the UK.
Several months ago, I had the privilege of being approached by Maria from Dyslexia a2z to support International Dysgraphia Awareness Day (IDAD), which is set to take place on October 2nd, 2023. This upcoming event promises to be an enlightening day, offering us a unique opportunity to delve deeper into the realm of dysgraphia. I am thrilled that our group, SEND Group, is one of the supporters of this vital initiative.
International Dysgraphia Awareness Day (IDAD), which falls on October 2nd, 2023, has a mission to broaden knowledge and understanding of dysgraphia while fostering a vibrant community of like-minded individuals who share a profound interest in advocating for the importance of effective handwriting.
IDAD is not just another awareness day; it's a celebration of the unique challenges and strengths associated with dysgraphia. By coming together, we can make a significant impact on raising awareness about dysgraphia and providing support to those affected by this condition.
