On the 25th August 2020, the British Dyslexia Association announced the appointment of Nick Posford as their latest CEO.
In June, we found out that the then current CEO of the British Dyslexia Association, Helen Boden, was stepping down after a 20 year career working for the organisation.
Last week, the BDA announced the appointment of Nick Posford as the latest CEO to head up the charity who starts his tenure today.
Who is Nick Posford?
Nick has had previous charitable CEO positions in the past working in the area of irritable bowel at CICRA (Crohn’s in Children Reserach Association) and has developed family support services as well as initiatives to promote confidence in children with Crohn’s across the UK.
What could this appointment mean for the BDA?
Nick has considerable experience managing charitable organisations and has clearly been successful in delivering initiatives aimed at supporting children and their mental health
Without having spoken to Nick and based upon the BDA’s announcement, I would personally welcome further work at the BDA in supporting the mental well-being of children with dyslexia especially after the recent study that was done to assess the emotional or ‘human cost’ of dyslexia on children and families that showed how this area of a child’s life with dyslexia should not be underestimated.
So it would be wonderful to see more initiatives that seek to support families that doesn’t just focus on dyslexia specifically but the emotional and social impact that dyslexia has upon the life of a child as well as young people and adults as they pass through education and into the workplace.
I have been in touch with Nick and I hope to welcome him on a future article.
